The Spot Spraying is the spraying solution of the future

Beyond its commercial strategy, Berthoud is placing innovation and the rejuvenation of its product ranges at the heart of its priorities by investing in R&D. Berthoud is on hand to help its customers deal with new environmental constraints and reduce the volume of pesticides sprayed.

The company's design office is focusing its research on technologies that fit with environmental expectations while guaranteeing Berthoud customers sustainable operations. At its 2019 trade show stands, Berthoud introduced the technologies that are already in use, as well as its partnerships with two start-ups that use deep learning within agriculture.
In 2017, Berthoud was a pioneer in the development of the SPRAYTRONIC - the concept of frequency spraying. This technology makes it possible to vary the flow of a nozzle by 70%, and to vary the working speed in the same way, without changing the operating pressure.
Today, the company is going even further in this process of technological revolution. Berthoud is wasting no time in putting in place the necessary means to galvanise the company's innovations around precision agriculture, electronics, automation and artificial intelligence systems capable of detecting the plants that are to be treated, such as those developed by Carbon Bee and Bilberry.
In a world where markets are increasingly competitive, it is also necessary to provide solutions that create savings for our customers. Spot spraying technology reduces the quantity of inputs sprayed by 50% to 90% (depending on the plot and the type of crop), while maintaining optimum spraying quality. In this way, farmers can carry out their spraying with precision: they reduce their costs and their environmental impact.

BERTHOUD continues its pre-marketing tests

This year, Berthoud launched its second series of trials, in continued partnership with Bilberry and Carbon Bee. With three standard self-propelled sprayers working under real conditions in Europe, the Marketing and R&D teams can monitor real-life use through this hands-on experiment and get authentic field feedback. The common goal of these partnerships is to offer a reliable solution in the near future for farmers who rely on the spraying specialist to help them in their tasks.
José Godineau, the French farmer trialling one of the solutions, had this to say: “we encounter difficulties every day, but at the same time we need to ensure optimum and environmentally-friendly productivity. The spot spraying system allows us to use less product thanks to better targeting. I truly believe it is the solution of the future”.

Discrover the testimony about the Carbon Bee solution with José Godineau, the farmer who tried the spot spraying solution and the technical approach of people in charge of the project in both companies.
